Living With Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Just like other organs in your body, the intestines can develop problems or diseases. Inflammatory bowel disease or IBD is a chronic disease of the intestinal tract, which is more serious than IBS, or irritable bowel syndrome.

There are two major forms of irritable bowel disease, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colis. Both of these irritable bowel disorders can interfere with absorption of essential nutrients from food, resulting in weight loss, fatigue, and loss of appetite.

People with Crohn’s disease can also experience abdominal cramps or pain, diarrhea, fever, intestinal ulcers, and inflammation of other parts of the body. Chrohn’s disease symptoms most often occurs in the lower part of the small intestine where it joins the colon. The level of severity differs for each individual from minor symptoms and hardly any discomfort, to frequent diarrhea and intestinal pain.
