After all, although I have been through my share of hard times, I have always prided myself on being independent. I had always thought that drug and alcohol rehab was for wimps.
I figured that, if you can not control yourself, you aren’t trying hard enough. It is difficult to admit that you have a problem that is beyond your control. For me, drug treatment was the hardest thing I ever had to do.
It didn’t help that the drug rehabilitation was court ordered. I have no desire to go to a clinic. After all, although I had gotten caught with drugs, my habit hadn’t really hurt anyone else, had it?

Drug addiction is something that is hard to understand until you have seen it up close. After all, addiction to drugs – or anything for that matter – involves a rapid and drastic transformation of personality. Substance addicts are so driven by their craving that they can be almost unrecognizable to former friends.
They can look unhealthy, spew out paranoid rants, have trouble thinking or concentrating, and stab people they normally would care about in the back. It is an ugly thing to see a friend you used to care about turn to drug abuse.
A lot of people say that getting into drug dependence doesn’t happen overnight, but sometimes it does. Drugs addiction can be a sudden or a gradual transformation. Sometimes, it takes people years to get involved in the drug.
