From the supplier: The National Crime Prevention and Privacy Compact is a state-federal partnership that is authorized by Public Law 105-251 in 1998. The program aims to make verification of criminal records across states easier by simplifying the procedures associated with the use of the FBI’s Interstate Identification Index (III). Among other things, the compact mandates the FBI and ratifying states to participate in the civil access program, clarifies procedures for accessing FBI file records, and creates a coordinating council to establish operating policies for users of the III system.
